January 17, 2017 - The Demand for Justice Program signed its key court-monitoring partner, KLI, to assess whether the justice sector is adequately upholding the Constitutional rights of all Kosovo citizens to legal representation in criminal cases, and to efficient, timely resolution of grievances in administrative dispute cases.
Through this grant KLI will expand their court monitoring work by assessing whether justice actors are successfully affording the right to free legal counsel in criminal matters to citizens who cannot afford a lawyer; and whether courts are adjudicating administrative dispute cases efficiently and in “due time” as required under Kosovo’s Constitution.
D4J is a U.S Department of State/INL funded program which began in August 2016 and is supporting the development of robust, evidence-driven demand for justice in Kosovo and increased critical-thinking and practical skills building amongt the legal community.
