EULEX Prosecutor Lectures at the D4J Live Legal Clinic

Excellent cooperation is developing between the D4J Program’s Live Legal Clinic and the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX). This cooperation paved the way for EULEX Prosecutor Drew G. Engel to delivere a lecture on “The secret to a successful examination” to both Clinic students and Clinic advocates, who had an excellent opportunity to learn from Mr. Engel’s international experience. This lecture represents a first for EULEX prosecutors, and D4J is hopeful for future EULEX cooperation as it plans on improving and duplicating this affordable, pro bono-driven brand of clinical education to all interested Kosovo law faculties.

The lecture provided the audience with the opportunity to learn about the steps to follow for the successful examination of a witness during both direct and cross examination and for the effective use of the right to “object” to prosecutorial questions. Mr. Engel also provided guidance on protecting client rights as well as tips on how to overcome other challenges unique to the practice of law.

The D4J Live Criminal Law Clinic offers students of the Faculty of Law the opportunity to assist KBA advocates in their pro bono representation of poor criminal defendants. The Clinic serves 14 students, each of whom will have the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in practice by working on live legal cases under the mentorship of a KBA advocate during their fourth year of law school or Master’s program.
