About Us

NCSC is a private, non-profit organization providing technical assistance, training and research to advance justice systems in the 50 U.S. States and around the world.

History

Founded in 1971 by the leaders of the U.S. courts to deliver on the promise of Equal Justice under Law, today, NCSC helps justice sector actors and civil society stakeholders around the world to become more responsive, engaged, and ethical professionals committed to the Rule of Law and access to justice.

NCSC in Kosovo

NCSC has been active in Kosovo since 2001, working with justice sector actors and civil society to strengthen judicial independence, the professionalism and accountability of justice sector actors, and the engagement of civil society and citizens to understand and demand justice. Our work in Kosovo

  • 2016-OngoingDemand for Justice

    Demand for Justice Program will support the development of robust evidence-driven demand for justice in Kosovo. Working with civil society partners, universities and high schools, the program will expand community-based information resources to inform citizens of their rights and the mechanisms to activate them, to counter corruption, and to hold justice sector actors accountable.

  • 2011-2015Kosovo Legal Proffession Program

    Kosovo Legal Profession (KLP) Program was a three-year cooperative agreement with USAID in Kosovo .The program worked with university law faculties to enhance clinical legal education, and with the Chamber of Advocates' to strengthen continuing legal education programs and membership services.

  • 2007-2011Kosovo Justice Support Program

    The Justice Support Program worked with the Kosovo Judicial Council, the Ministry of Justice, Courts, and Prosecution Offices to improve the legal framework for the justice sector, strengthen the administration of courts and prosecution offices, and increase citizen awareness and access to justice. NCSC implemented a model courts program, renovating 10 facilities and introducing improvement to case and records management, the organization of administrative services, backlog reduction, and customer service.

  • 2003-2007Justice Sector Reform Activity in Kosovo

    The Justice System Reform Activity in Kosovo assisted the transition of the judicial system to the institutions of provisional self-governance, supporting the establishment of Kosovo’s first judicial and prosecutorial council and the establishment of judicial audit and judicial inspection units. NCSC also worked with municipal courts across Kosovo to reduce backlogs in civil execution cases and assisted courts with a range of court administration reforms including audio recording, archive management, and case management.
